On March 4, Walla News reported on the widespread factory workers' strike in southern Israel. They claim that their management is moving forward with a plan for widespread layoffs. Protests began after 140 workers received severance letters and 135 more workers of another company were threatened firings. These recent strikes are significant because not only have such workers been essential in the continuing development of the south, but unemployment is a serious issue which has come to the forefront of Israel's economic issues in recent years.
