Lesson Brief
Al Jazeera
On June 26, Turkey and Israel reached a reconciliation agreement, signed in Rome, that ended a six-year break of relations between the countries. Relations between Turkey and Israel had been strained following the Mavi Marmara flotilla incident in 2010 that resulted in the deaths of nine activists on board. Pursuant to the agreement, the countries will once again exchange ambassadors and the deal will compensate the families of the victims about $20 million. In this set, you will prepare to read an article written before the deal was announced, which details its rumors and likely stipulations.
