On October 26, Al Sharq Al Awsat reported that an Egyptian deputy minister of defense has alleged that Palestinian agents were involved in the recent attack against Egyptian security forces in northern Sinai. Egyptian President Sisi had earlier blamed foreign parties for the attack, but declined to elaborate. In the wake of the attack, Egyptian security forces have expanded operations in and are attempting to isolate much of the northern Sinai.
