Nearly six years after the launch of the Euromaidan movement that transformed Ukraine’s political and security landscape, Ukraine still finds itself stuck in a sustained armed conflict with Russian-backed separatists, a political culture mired in corruption, and a struggle to stave off further Russian aggression while maintaining good relations with supporters in the West. In May 2019, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, a former television personality, won Ukraine’s presidential election in a landslide, taking on the responsibility of managing all of the many challenges his country faces.
