US Losing Patience in South Sudan

Lesson Brief BBC Arabic
On July 31, BBC Arabic reported that the US has lost patience with the lack of progress in efforts to restore peace between rival warring factions. Numerous civilians have died and many have been displaced in the fighting between militants loyal to South Sudan President Salva Kiir and his former deputy Riek Machar. President Obama recently threatened to take more aggressive measures against the warring parties, including sanctions, if a lasting peace agreement cannot be reached. Previous ceasefires have ended days and sometimes hours after their agreements.
