UN to Host Talks between Libya’s Warring Factions

Lesson Brief BBC Arabic
On January 13, BBC Arabic reported that the UN will be hosting talks between Libya's warring factions in Geneva, Switzerland. International officials, although pleased to hold the meeting, cautioned against high hopes for immediate breakthroughs, suggesting the likelihood of years-long negotiations. The aim of the talks is reportedly to initiate a gradual withdrawal of all armed groups from major Libyan cities. Much of Libya's internationally recognized government has been forced to pull out of Tripoli to the far eastern city of Tubruq as instability continues to plague the country's capital city.
