The Fall of Ceausascu and the Rise of a New President

Lesson Brief Radio Svoboda
The year 2014 has been a year full of anniversaries. Only a few month ago, Germans celebrated the 25 year anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and Czechs and Slovaks celebrated the 25 year anniversary of the beginning of the Velvet Revolution in former-Czechoslovakia. There was another anniversary on Sunday in Romania, where the newly elected president was inaugurated on the 25 year anniversary of the fall of the Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausascu. In a surprise win, the newly elected president Klaus Iohannis spoke at his inauguration about the future of Romania and the end of Communism 25 years earlier.
