The Bar Kokbha Revolt was a Jewish revolt against Roman rule in Palestine in 132 CE. The revolt was successful in establishing an independent Jewish state for three years until the Romans crushed it in 135 CE. The leader of the revolt, Shimon Bar Kokhba was believed by many during the time to be the Jewish messiah, until his death during the siege of Betar.
