State Duma Seeks Way to Stop Inflation

Lesson Brief BBC Russian
With recent inflation rates on food products hitting 16% in Russia, the State Duma is struggling to work out a plan to curb this disturbing trend. A new bill would forbid food manufacturers to require suppliers to pay additional marketing fees for promoting their products. Lawmakers see this as the most hopeful current scenario to block further inflation. Economists from marketing development groups in the country are not so optimistic about the Duma's efforts, stating that marketing fees do not comprise a large enough percent of revenue to make a difference in the long run.
