Special Bank Accounts Opened for Palestinian Orphans
Lesson Brief
Al Sharq Al Awsat
On May 26, Al Sharq Al Awsat reported that the Palestinian Monetary Authority is allowing special bank accounts to be opened on behalf of Palestinian orphans in the Gaza Strip. The decision comes after the bank accounts of several charities that donate money to Gazan orphans were closed because of suspicion that the charities channel money to Hamas. The closing of those bank accounts prompted demonstrations and a sit-in in front of the Bank of Palestine in the West Bank, leading to the decision to allow for private accounts. The attached video deals heavily with the Palestinian Arabic dialect. When listening try and notice the different pronunciations from Fusha.
