Should Rabbis March at a Military Induction Ceremony?
Lesson Brief
NRG
On March 12th, NRG reported on a recommendation for Rabbi's to not march alongside soldiers in a military induction ceremony. Minister of Defence Moshe Yaalon has expressed opposition to the recommendation. In the past, the ceremonies have changed format while maintaining the uniqueness and ability to adapt to different faiths present in Israel's army.
One thing to be look out for when reading this article and any article that deals with Israel's military is the frequency of acronym use. תא"ל stands for תת אלוף which means "brigadier-general", צה"ל stands for צבא הגנה לישראל which means "Israel Defense Forces", and רמטכ"ל stands for ראש מטה כללי which means "commander in chief".
