Seven Arrested in Serbia for 1995 Bosnian Massacre

Lesson Brief BBC Russian
Seven suspects have been arrested in Serbia for their participation in the 1995 massacre in Srebrenica, Bosnia & Herzegovina. More than 8,000 Muslim men and boys were systematically murdered over the course of the three days in the most heinous act of genocide on European soil since World War 2. These arrests mark the first for anyone connected with the Srebrenica massacre and will prove pivotal for Serbia's future as it struggles to reconcile its past with its hopes of future European integration. Serbia is a country covered quite closely in the Russian media sphere. This is mostly due to the countries' close ties, as Russia continuously backed Serbia throughout the Yugoslav wars of the 1990s and has supported Serbia in its refusal to recognize the independence of Kosovo.
