“Sea March” Marks Palestinian Nakba in Gaza
Lesson Brief
Maan
On May 15, Maan News did a feature on several dozen Palestinians who held a "sea rally" or "sea march" to mark the anniversary of the so-called Nakba, or "catastrophe," a reference to the Israeli victory in 1948. This was reportedly a new way to mark the occasion, and multiple other demonstrations and events will take place in Gaza in the coming weeks. The major theme of the rally was the Right of Return, a reference to the highly contentious issue of Palestinian refugees' right to return to Israel. This is a very short article but contains great cultural vocabulary.
