Saudi Warship Production Line in Operation

Lesson Brief Al Sharq Al Awsat
On April 29, Al Sharq Al Awsat reported that a new Saudi shipyard for the construction and maintenance of warships and other military sea vessels has begun operations in the port city of Dammam. The defense contractor running the production line, Al Zamel, has a contract to construct three warships and four other vessels to patrol the waters of the coast of Kuwait. The company says it hopes to make Saudi Arabia self-reliant in warship manufacturing and maintenance. The new production line opens as Saudi Arabia has begun wielding its military strength in the region and as it prepares for the possibility of confrontation with Iran.
