Sadr supporters begin their protest in central Baghdad
Lesson Brief
Al Sumaria
On April 17, Al Sumaria reported that followers of the Sadrist movement, led by Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, set up protest tents in central Baghdad, calling for reform. The Sadr supporters surrounded four government ministries calling for the resignations of certain ministers and an end to government corruption. The protesters were met by a heavy security presence around the ministries.
