Yulia Stepanova, a Russian athlete, has requested political asylum in Canada for herself and her husband following her role in unveiling the international doping scandal that has rocked the world of Russian track and field in recent weeks. Russia's Olympic team is currently under threat to possibly be banned from participating in next summer's Olympic Games in Rio if major reforms are not enacted very soon.
