Russia Bans Release of Hollywood Film

Lesson Brief BBC Russian
The Russian Ministry of Culture has banned the release of a new Hollywood film in the country the day before the film's release. Child 44 tells the story of a crime investigator played by Tom Hardy who is searching for a serial killer in the early years of the Soviet Union. Government representatives in Russia has said that the film misrepresents the Soviet Union, where such serial killers could not have existed. They also point out that the film would create bad morale in the country in the weeks leading up to Victory Day. Today's set features many words about the film industry and the Kremlin's reaction to a film that seemingly taints the government narrative of the Russia's supposedly unblemished past.
