Palestinians Seeking National Currency

Lesson Brief Maan
On October 28, Maan reported that Palestinian monetary official Riyad Abu Shahada criticized the Palestinians' current monetary system of four major cash currencies being used in Palestinian markets. The official noted that Palestinians are obliged to use the Israeli Shekel, and also trade in the dollar, Jordanian dinar, and the Euro. The official said that a national currency would make the Palestinian economy less susceptible to fluctuations in the markets of those countries, over which they have no control.
