Lesson Brief Slon
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has offered international immunity to imprisoned Ukrainian fighter pilot Nadia Savchenko and has demanded Russia to release Savchenko immediately. Russia responded that there is no itention to release Savchenko before she is determined innocent. Savchenko has been held in a Russian prison since July 2014 for supposedly facilitating the killing of two Russian journalists. During the course of her imprisonment, Savchenko has become a symbol of Kremlin brutality and mass movements have been launched for her release. Savchenko herself has been on a hunger strike since December to protest her detention.
