Obama Sending Kerry to Reassure ME Allies after Iran Deal
Lesson Brief
BBC Arabic
On July 15, BBC Arabic reported that President Obama would be dispatching Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter on a diplomacy tour in the Middle East to reassure its allies, particularly Israel, of the benefit of the recent agreement with Iran and of the US' support for their security. The deal has been condemned by Israel, criticized by Republicans, and lukewarmly received by Saudi Arabia, the latter having been engaged in a decades-long sectarian proxy war with the Islamic Republic. Iranians, on the other hand, celebrated the news, eager to reap the benefits to come from the lifting of international sanctions and global isolation.
