Netanyahu Takes Interest in Southern Israel Worker Strike

Lesson Brief Ynet
On March 8th, Ynet reported that Netanyahu is beginning to intervene in the labor matters of southern Israel. Workers from Israel's Chemical company, and others, have been on strike due to the widespread layoff letters being sent out to their workers. These workers are an essential part of southern Israel's development and demand a solution to their problems. Until the moment that a chairman of the workers committee and Dead Sea factories, Armond Lankari, decided to speak at a rally criticizing Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister had not intervened in the social justice and economics matter. In this set the concept of a "golden share" (מנית זהב) is used in reference to political power and company shares. The golden shares referred to in this article are the government-held shares in the Israel Chemical company that allows the government special voting privileges, consequently giving the government the power to veto certain business decisions. Also a fun Semetic language crossover, the word אחלה (slang for "cool" or "great") comes from the Arabic word أحلى (Ahla), a superlative, meaning "the most sweet". Here our previous sets on the Israel Chemicals: here and here.
