As the result of a move to modernize Moscow's archaic healthcare system, thousands of doctors and health care professionals in Moscow are set to lose their jobs as many hospitals and clinics are scheduled to be shut down. As a result, thousands of Moscow healthcare professionals went out on the streets in a rare protest. To deal with the increased pressure, Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin has promised to provide 500,000 rubles in compensation to those who are soon to lose their jobs over the reforms.
