Morocco Suspends Flights from Libya
Lesson Brief
Al Arabiya
On February 16, Al Arabiya reported that planes from Libya will no longer be allowed to enter Moroccan air space. The temporary suspension was officially declared because of Libyan aircrafts' non-compliance with air safety protocols, but the move comes amid increased tension in North Africa. Egypt has begun air strikes against targets in Libya after ISIS fighters beheaded 21 Egyptian Coptic Christian migrant workers in Libya, demonstrating that the terrorist group's reach has extended far beyond the Iraq-Syria border region. The Moroccan government is also asking its citizens to leave Libya and said it would assist in the process.
