Marrakech Authorities Close Controversial Nightclub
Lesson Brief
Asda al-Maghreb
On May 25, Asda al-Maghreb reported that a Marrakech night club shown in a controversial movie has been closed down. The front of the night club, unnamed in the article, was featured in a controversial movie, "Al-Zin Li Fik", a colloquial Moroccan title commonly translated as "Much Loved" which profiles Moroccan prostitutes and features a cross-dresser. The official reason for the closure, which came after a fight broke out in front of the club, is that it stayed open beyond appropriate hours. The owners responded by complaining that the move was a misuse of tax money. Although the club's facade was featured in the film, the scenes of parties and dancing in the movie which caused a controversy were reportedly shot at private villas.
