Kindergarten Teacher’s Inappropriate Holocaust Education
Lesson Brief
Maariv
On April 16th, Maariv reported on the approach taken by a kindergarten teacher to teach preschoolers about the Holocaust. 17 children had the infamous yellow Star of David patches pinned to their shirts as part of what their teacher decided was appropriate Holocaust education. The municipality of Rishon L'Tzion, the neighborhood of the school, responded that this was an unusual event that is being taken very seriously and that the teacher had been immediately suspended pending a hearing.
In this set there are multiple words dealing with shock: מזועזע - "shocked", הלם - "shock", and תדהמה - "astonishment". An interesting phrase that is used is לעשות ככל העולה על רוחה - "to do as she pleases".
