Israelis of Ethiopian descent allowed to donate blood

On December 8, Israeli media reported that the Israeli Ministry of Health removed a ban on Israelis of Ethiopian descent donating blood. The ban had been in place due to the prevalence of AIDS in Ethiopia; however, it was seen by as unnecessary and discriminatory. As of now, Israelis of Ethiopian descent that were born in Israel or have not visited Ethiopia a year prior to their blood donation date are allowed to donate blood.
