Israeli government moves against illegal Amona outpost
Lesson Brief
IsraeliPM
On December 16, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed the nation about the illegal Amona outpost and an Israeli court's ruling that it should be evacuated and destroyed. Netanyahu stressed that while his administration is committed to settlements, Israel is a nation of laws and must enforce all decisions handed down by the court, equally. The prime minister asked the residents of Amona not to harm IDF soldiers, by any means, during the planned evacuation and stated that his heart was with the settlers. As of December 18, the Israeli government had reached an agreement with the Amona outpost to relocate the settlers to a nearby hilltop in the West Bank.
