Iraqi, Syrian Officials Discuss Security Cooperation

Lesson Brief Al Sharq Al Awsat
On March 24, Al Sharq Al Awsat reported on Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari's trip to Syria to discuss with officials in Damascus potential areas for security cooperation and coordination. Calls between the two governments for more such coordination have reportedly been increasing as the two countries struggle in the face of a common enemy, ISIS. Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem said that certain countries in the region had an interest in bringing about a peaceful resolution to the Syrian civil war, without saying which countries, and that the security of both Iraq and Syria benefits by such a resolution.
