Iraq Displays Region’s Biggest Flag

Lesson Brief Al Sumaria
On April 1, Al Sumaria News reported on the display of the largest ever Iraqi flag unveiled at Baghdad's police academy headquarters. The flag entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest Iraqi flag ever made and reportedly is the biggest country flag in the Middle East. Saying the flag was unfurled however, would be disingenuous, as it was a temporary construction of 5000 pieces of cardboard, and based on videos, is also a gathering of 5000 sun shields. In any case, the gesture comes amid a wave of nationalist displays in support of the government's effort against ISIS, especially in Tikrit. Iraqi officials recently declared victory in Tikrit, but as of this writing, this has not been verified.
