Iranians will not make the Hajj this year

On May 12, BBC Arabic reported that Iran will not send its citizens to perform the religious Hajj obligation in Saudi Arabia this year after the two sides failed to agree on certain safety and other precautions demanded by the Iranians. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia blamed Iran for the impasse and claimed that it was exploiting the Muslim religious duty for geopolitical reasons. Last year, 2,426 pilgrims were killed during a stampede at the Hajj, which the Iranians claim was caused by Saudi incompetence. Additional Vocabulary:
