Iranian Artist and Activist Stands Trial for Caricature

Lesson Brief BBC Arabic
On May 19, BBC Arabic reported that Iranian activist and artist Atena Farghadani stood trial in Iran for a caricature that mocked proposed laws to restrict birth control and contraceptives. The 28 year old activist could face years in  prison if she is found guilty of the allegations stemming from her cartoon, which depicted the Iranian parliament as monkeys. This set features some crucial vocabulary on contraceptives and birth control, while mixing in vocabulary on women's rights. The attached video does not report on Atena Farghadani's plight, but rather is a news clip about proponents and opponents of birth control in Iran.
