Houthis Blame Saudi, Qatar for Regional “Conspiracies”
Lesson Brief
BBC Arabic
On March 22, BBC Arabic reported that Houthi leader Abdel Malik al-Houthi has accused Saudi Arabia and Qatar of orchestrating conspiracies throughout the Middle East to advance their agendas. Numerous news sources have reported that Iran, which backs the Shiite Houthi insurgent movement, has also been active advancing its agenda in the region, most notably in Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq. The Houthi leader also described Yemen's president as a puppet of those countries and the West. The speech came hours after Houthi insurgents took control of large areas of Yemen's third largest city, Ta'izz.
