Fugitive crocodiles in Egypt

Lesson Brief El Watan News
In January 2016, several crocodiles were spotted on the loose in a canal in a Cairo neighborhood known as the Matariya District. Locals contacted Egyptian authorities who confirmed the presence of the reptiles. According to one Egyptian official, the crocodiles most likely escaped from a private home where they were raised or they were deliberately placed into the water once they got too big. The official also speculated that they may have escaped a local farm where they are harvested for their skins. The crocodiles were captured by a special government unit, which transferred them to an animal garden in preperation for their eventual release back into the wild, away from residential areas. This set is a great opportunity to brush up on some "animal" and environmental vocabulary.
