Foreign Leaders Meet in Minsk for Ukraine Summit

Lesson Brief BBC Russian
In what he is calling the most important day of his presidency, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is currently in Minsk, Belarus with the leaders of France, Germany, and Russia in a diplomatic attempt to negotiate a ceasefire and peace deal in regards to the ongoing fighting in eastern Ukraine. While there is skepticism that the talks will fail to bring about any concrete progress, it does mark an important step in continuing dialogue among the European powers to reach a solution which will not result in escalated violence in the ongoing struggle between the Ukrainian government and pro-Russian separatists for control over the country's eastern regions.
