Exchange of Fire between Israel and the Syrian Golan Heights
Lesson Brief
BBC Arabic
On August 21, BBC Arabic reported on the recent exchange of missile and rocket fire between Israel and militants in the Syrian Golan Heights. Although it is still not clear who launched rockets toward Israel, the Israeli government has blamed the Iran-affiliated Islamic Jihad, which has denied the accusation. The group called it an attempt by Israel to turn attention away from Mohammed Elan, an Israeli prisoner and member of the organization currently on hunger strike. Israel said that the responsibility is ultimately that of the Syrian government, which it said will suffer the consequences.
