Egyptian-Chinese Electricity Deal

Lesson Brief Al Masry Al Youm
On February 10, Al Masry Al Youm reported that state-owned Egyptian Electricity Holding Company has inked a deal with a Chinese company to refurbish and improve Egypt's struggling electrical grid. The deal includes supplying "smart meters" into Egyptian homes and renovation and upkeep for power stations. In late 2014, Egypt suffered multiple country-wide power outages, prompting the new government to look for a solution. The power grid has also been hit by acts of "sabotage" and other attacks by militants and other opposition elements. The video with this set discusses the power outages in late 2014.
