Doubts Over Paris Climate Conference 2C Cap
Lesson Brief
Reuters / Al Hayat
On June 2, Reuters / Al Hayat reported on the skepticism facing the talks at the 2C climate conference in Paris; 2C is a reference to a 2 degree-Celsius cap above the average global temperature before the Industrial Revolution. While in some industrializing countries critics are wary of regulations that could curb economic growth, many others feel the cap would not be nearly enough to curb global warming. Note that the Arabic words for greenhouse effect and global warming are largely synonymous and are used interchangeably.
