Crimean Tatar TV Network Taken Off the Air

Lesson Brief Ведомости
The only Crimean Tatar-language television network in the world was shut down by Russian authorities on April 1st. After trying several times to submit an application to receive a license for broadcasting over Russian networks, Russian officials still denied the channel broadcasting rights, citing errors in the application process. Crimean Tatar representatives claim that the shutting down of the station is politically motivated and an attempt by Russian authorities to block out the voice of Crimea's most vocal minority.
