Claims Iraqi Govt. Bank Manager Misuses Deposits

Lesson Brief Al Sumaria
On January 12, Al Sumaria News reported claims by an unnamed source in the Interior Ministry that a manager of an Iraqi government bank, also unnamed, has been tapping into, or "breaking", Iraqi monetary deposits in foreign countries. The claim continues that the bank manager transfers large amounts of money from these deposits to Lebanese bank accounts where they accrue interest. From there, the interest accrued allegedly is then given out to various businessmen in the form of unsecured loans in return for a commission for the manager's "personal gain." This report comes amid a public crackdown on corruption being waged by the new Iraqi government.
