Belarusian Woman Receives Nobel Prize for Literature

Svetlana Alexievich, a Belarusian journalist, was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature on Thursday. Known for her controversial compilations of eye-witness accounts of World War 2 and Soviet life, Alexievich has been credited for creating a new genre of documentary-style writing. Many of her most celebrated writings, consequently, have never been published in her native Belarus.
