Arguing Against Longer School Vacations in Israel
Lesson Brief
Ynet
On April 14th, Ynet reported on the long vacations for students in elementary and high schools in Israel. Parents are finding this hard to manage because they are not given as much time off of work as their children have days off from school, and in a competitive job market, this makes maintaining a familiy difficult. A group of parents has submitted a petition to the court that the decisions on how many days to grant as vacation be decided upon in collaboration with the parents themselves.
In this set two infinitive forms of verbs have an added ending להשיבם - "to return them" and לשתפם - "to include them" which are literary devices not normally used in spoken Hebrew. Also be careful when reading מוסדות נסגרים - "institutions are closed" because מוסד is a masculine noun that takes a feminine plural ending.
