Are We Seeing the Beginning of the End of Nord Stream II?

Lesson Brief Зеркало недели. Украина.
As the new year approaches and the question of economic sanctions and relations with Russia are reignited, all parties have begun talking about the construction of the Nord Stream II pipeline from Vyborg, Russia to Germany. The new pipeline would follow the path of the first Nord Stream pipeline and bring more natural gas to Germany and the EU. However, knowing Russia's desire to bypass Ukraine and force the EU into dependence on Russian gas, numerous countries have come out against its construction, the most vocal being Poland, Slovakia, and Ukraine. In addition, several influential countries, such as Italy, have asked for deeper discussions and debate to see whether it is actually the best path forward for EU energy independence.
