Aramco Halts Egypt’s Oil Supplies

Lesson Brief BBC Arabic
On November 8, BBC Arabic reported that Saudi Aramco decided to indefinitely halt supplying Egypt with oil shipments. The decision is forcing Egypt, which relies on foreign oil, to seek its needs elsewhere, including Iran. Aramco had previously agreed to a 5-year deal with Egypt to provide it with fuel products each month. The deal was valued at $23 billion. Analysts believe that the decision is linked to a widening rift between Saudi Arabia and Egypt concerning Egypt's lack of economic reforms and unwillingness to get involved in the conflict in Yemen. Suggested Set: Saudi Arabia paves the way for oil-sector privatization
