Algeria blocks social media to prevent exam cheating
Lesson Brief
BBC Arabic
On June 19, BBC Arabic reported that Algeria temporarily blocked social media sites, such as Facebook, to prevent cheating on high school final examinations. According to the article, half of the test takers were forced to retake the exams because of incidents of cheating during the tests' original dates. The article noted that a number of students had been able to access the test questions via Facebook and that Algeria has witnessed similar incidents in past years. Other countries in the region, such as Egypt, are going through a similar crisis after exam questions were posted online.
