10-Year Baghdad Curfew Lifted

Lesson Brief BBC Arabic
On February 5, BBC Arabic reported that Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi has lifted a nighttime curfew in Baghdad that has been in place for the past 10 years. The order comes after several areas of the city were declared demilitarized zones and as, according to several other reports, the Iraqi government believes the danger from ISIS to the capital has recently subsided. Officials said the move was intended to easy restrictions and improve the everyday living conditions of Baghdad's residents. The curfew had prohibited travel in Baghdad between midnight and 5am.
